2008 has gone by quickly – we are already reviewing submissions for 2009. Founding editor Ellen Domb posted a commentary that sums up how we feel going into the new year, "We have developed into a worldwide TRIZ community that has characteristics of many families – we don’t always agree on everything, but we help each other. Some members observe all the old traditions, some members develop new traditions. Like a family, when someone new joins, we help the new members learn the family traditions, both old and new, then watch as the new member decides which family traditions to observe, or whether to develop new ones."

We look forward to your being a part of our community for years to come. 

This year's final issue features:

• A new Student Corner article looks at the inventive possibilities of ice.
• Ellen Domb explores the challenges of effectively teaching TRIZ.
• "Using TRIZ to Improve Pem-nut Production" explores how TRIZ was used to design a mold-form to improve the pem-nut production process.
• The 40 inventive principles are good, but Ives de Sanger and Eddy Claeys examine specific ways of strengthening them.
• Applying TRIZ beyond traditional engineering applications is the focus of "Systematic Clustering of Business Problems."

Marco de Carvalho is a lecturer, researcher and consultant in the areas of product development, project management and TRIZ/systematic innovation. Dr. Paul Filmore has been teaching creativity, personal, professional, entrepreneurial and research skills for more than 10 years, at the University of Plymouth, UK. He introduces TRIZ to first-year engineering degree students and technology Masters (postgraduate) students. Dr. Filmore runs an innovation consultancy, The Insight Centre, where TRIZ and other systematic problem-solving skills predominate and have been augmented by research and practical understanding of how disruptive innovation thinking can help to further break mindsets.
